A Central Committee member of the Eritrean Blue Revolution Front (EBRF), Dawit Teferi, has described "Tsimdo," an alliance of anti-Ethiopia-government groups, as a coalition held together primarily by shared opposition to the federal government in Addis Ababa rather than by any common territorial or political program.
Speaking in a Zoom interview conducted by Ethiopia's state news agency, ENA, Dawit said the constituent groups within Tsimdo diverge sharply in their political interests and objectives, but cooperate tactically against a shared adversary.
"The main players in that group have nothing in common except toppling the central government in Ethiopia," Dawit said.
According to Dawit, the alliance's immediate strategy is not built around seizing or holding specific territory but around sustaining pressure on the federal government to force political change.
"The goal is to continue to destabilize the government, and hopefully bring government change by creating an alliance that constantly bleeds the government out."
Dawit argued that Tsimdo's cohesion depends heavily on whether the Ethiopian government responds militarily in a way that draws its disparate members into a broader, unified confrontation. Absent that, he suggested, the coalition's internal contradictions could surface over time. He described the members' cooperation as tactical rather than durable.
"None of them is committed to each other," Dawit said, characterizing the current arrangement as rooted in immediate strategic interests rather than a shared long-term vision.
He further predicted that prolonged absence of open conflict could expose latent tensions among the groups themselves.

"The longer there is no open conflict, the weight of hate between these groups will end up causing them, all of them, to eat each other," he said.
Dawit also linked Tsimdo to renewed relations between the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) and the Eritrean government, a rapprochement he said should be read against shifting regional political and security calculations despite the two sides' longstanding rivalry. In his assessment, the TPLF's ambitions extend beyond governing the Tigray region and toward reclaiming a central role in Ethiopia's federal governance — a characterization he offered as his own reading of the group's strategy rather than as established fact.
He compared the current effort to the coalition that ousted Ethiopia's military government in 1991, suggesting the actors behind Tsimdo are attempting to replicate that precedent without fully accounting for how the country's political landscape has changed over the past three decades.
"They don't seem to learn from history. They want to repeat history," he said.
The interview was conducted and published by ENA, Ethiopia's state news agency, featuring an opposition-aligned figure discussing an alliance of groups opposed to the government that ENA itself represents. The characterizations of Tsimdo's cohesion, strategy, and internal dynamics come solely from Dawit's account in that interview, and no independent corroboration of his claims — including his assessment of the TPLF's objectives or the coalition's operational cohesion — is presented alongside it. Readers should weigh the institutional context: a state broadcaster amplifying an opposition figure's portrayal of a rival coalition as fragile and divided serves the interests of the government being described as the alliance's target.
The remarks arrive amid continued political and armed opposition activity directed at the Ethiopian federal government in recent years, though the source material offers no additional specifics on Tsimdo's composition, capabilities, or timeline beyond Dawit's characterization.
