Kefi Gold and Copper has resumed development activities at its Tulu Kapi gold project in western Ethiopia, lifting a month-long suspension imposed after a fatal security incident in early September, the company announced on 12 October.
The London-listed company said work at the $340 million project would restart on a phased basis, according to Birr Metrics.
The suspension was instituted on 7 September, following a fatal security incident on 4 September, Birr Metrics reported. The halt was lifted after extensive consultations involving corporate management and community elders, the outlet said.
Capital Ethiopia reported that the company described the events as the "Genji Incident", which it said began on 4 September and was resolved on 10 September 2026.
Tulu Kapi is Kefi Gold and Copper's flagship project in Ethiopia, Capital Ethiopia said.
