The National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) will offer $140 million to commercial banks on Tuesday, 13 October, launching an expanded foreign exchange auction programme, Birr Metrics reported.
The programme will supply up to $840 million during the second quarter, according to the outlet.
Birr Metrics said the central bank was increasing its quarterly foreign exchange allocation by 68% despite weaker demand from banks in September.
The NBE is Ethiopia's central bank. The country moved to a market-based exchange rate, floating the birr, in July 2024.
